Clean up dunning on exactly the right plan
Find every invoice that keeps failing, see how many times each has been retried, and stop collection on only the plans you choose, without touching a customer's other subscriptions.
When a renewal fails, Recurly retries the card on a schedule. That is dunning, and most of the time it recovers revenue. But some invoices should stop being retried: a trial that turned out to be fraud, a card that has failed a dozen times, a customer who already asked to leave. Every extra retry costs a decline fee and counts against your decline ratio with the card networks.
The hard part is doing it precisely. Many customers have more than one subscription, and stopping collection on the wrong invoice means losing money you should have collected.
Find the invoices
"Which invoices on the 3-day trial plan have failed five times or more?"
Retrixus looks at every invoice still past due, however old, including the ones that started retrying three weeks ago, not only the last few days. For each invoice it counts the failed attempts from the invoice's own payment history, so the count is exact. That is not the same as Recurly's count of dunning emails sent: emails and retries can run on different schedules.
You can see the spread:
"Show me how many invoices are on each attempt count, and how much is owed in total."
Stop collection on just those plans
"Cancel those subscriptions and stop collection on their trial-plan invoices. Leave anyone who also has a premium plan alone."
Your AI asks the choices that matter, and never guesses:
- Which invoices to stop: every past-due invoice on the account, only those for certain plans, or only certain invoice numbers. A customer on two plans keeps paying for the one you leave out.
- Which accounts to skip entirely: for example anyone with a live subscription on a plan
matching
premium-*. - What note to leave on each account.
Then you see the plan before anything changes: how many accounts, which were left out and why, and any account where a step found nothing to do, flagged first because those are usually picked by mistake.
Keep an eye on it
"Alert me when more than 20 invoices on the trial plan reach their fifth failed attempt in an hour."
The dunning attempts watch reads every past-due invoice each time it checks and counts them by when Recurly last retried them.
