How it works

Watches

Have Retrixus keep an eye on signups, declines, trial conversion, fraud blocks, refunds or cancellations, and tell you when something is unusual.

A watch checks one thing about your Recurly data every 15, 30 or 60 minutes and tells you when it looks unusual. For example:

  • a burst of signups from one kind of traffic;
  • card declines jumping;
  • trials converting less than usual;
  • the fraud tool blocking more than usual;
  • a surge of refunds or cancellations.

Setting one up: just describe it

Tell your AI what worries you, in plain words: "tell me if direct signups spike with names that don't match the email". It then interviews you, a question or two at a time, and proposes an answer for each from your own data:

  1. What to watch, and which slice (all traffic, or one source, plan or gateway).
  2. Compared with what: fixed numbers, or a normal period it learns from ("Tuesday and Wednesday last week were normal").
  3. When it is unusual ("elevated") and when it is an alert.
  4. How often to check (every 15, 30 or 60 minutes), how long to keep watching, and who should hear: email, and optionally a Slack channel.

Before saving, it tests the watch on recent days, showing you when it would have fired and when it would have stayed quiet, so you can adjust the thresholds.

How long it runs

A watch runs for 8 hours unless you choose longer, up to 24. When the time is up it stops and emails you to ask whether to continue. Say "continue the watch for another 8 hours" to your AI. You can stop a watch at any time; it is kept, and you can start it again later.

In the portal, Admin, Watches lists every watch with its level and the time it has left. Open one to see its rules, its normal level and its recent checks, and to continue or stop it.

What you receive

An email (and a Slack message, if you added one) when a watch becomes elevated or an alert, again at most every 30 minutes while it stays raised, and once when it clears. Each message has:

  • the numbers;
  • the rule that fired;
  • a breakdown, if the watch has one (for example signups by browser);
  • the next step you asked to be reminded of.

It never gets in the way

Watches only read, and only counts: they never change anything in Recurly. All the watches on a site together use at most a tenth of the site's Recurly allowance. If a watch would check too often for that, your AI tells you the shortest interval that fits. When Recurly is busy, a check is skipped rather than run late.

Managers, Admins and Owners can save watches; anyone with live analysis can try one out. The Business plan includes up to 10.
